How To Clean A Mattress With Baking Soda

SOMETIMES not even a mattress protector will stop your bed getting filthy, discoloured and covered in stains.

And while it's easy to throw your sheets in the wash, when it comes to your mattress, it's not so straightforward.

But now, one Facebook account has revealed the ultimate hack to cleaning your mattress - and all you'll need is one item which you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard.

Specialising in every day life hacks, the account, Jersey Demic, has revealed how to use baking soda to remove stains and bacteria from your bed in one simple video.

The clip shows a person adding baking soda and a few drops of essential oil into a jar before mixing together and sprinkling across a dirty mattress.

Then comes the "mattress massage" which sees the person rubbing the mixture into the bed to "deep clean" before leaving for an hour to work its magic.

Following this, the mixture should be entirely vacuumed up, which is also said to remove any dust mites.

"You spend about a third of your life on your mattress," the video explains.

"When was the last time you gave it a good, deep clean?

"We are sorry to disappoint you but the mattresses you are using every single day are the perfect environment for the accumulation of dirt and bacteria.

"Cleaning the lines just won't do the cleaning for you, as the dust, dirt, sweat and other body fluids pass through the sheets and end up in the mattress.

"Believe it or not, all you need to clean the mattress is some baking soda, as it is extremely successful in destroying bacteria."

You can snap up some baking soda for as little as £1 at supermarkets or from The Range.

Other users were seriously impressed at the video, with one commenting: "I used to use it on mattresses when my children were young and wet the bed. It worked great for that too."

While another wrote: "I applied only baking soda, olive oil and honey... I saw the result in just one... amazing miracle."

Some, however, were concerned that hoovering the mattress wouldn't vacuum all of the baking soda up, with one explaining: "Don't try this, the effect of baking soda may work but hell hard to vacuum it. There's still baking soda left on mine."
